Excepción de puntero nulo Java
Estoy empezando a aprender Java y me he encontrado con un problema. Cuando intento ejecutar una aplicación de Android, obtengo una NullPointerException cuando se llama al método makeResponse.

(sw es un campo de la clase padre, establecido en otro método. sw es una instancia de una clase hecha a sí misma - código completo al final)
La excepción se produce en la línea que comienza "int id ="
Mi búsqueda inicial de NullPointerException me dijo que se "arrojó cuando una aplicación intenta usar nulo en un caso donde se requiere un objeto". - De ahí las dos cláusulas "if" en mi código anterior, para tratar de encontrar qué objeto fue inesperadamente nulo. Como ninguno de estos es, concluí que sw.getIdFromName debe devolver un nulo de tipo Integer (como en este problema similar:Java: ¿excepción de puntero nulo al desempaquetar Integer?). Sin embargo, no veo cómo esto es posible en sw.getIdFromName como se muestra a continuación (nameLookup es una matriz de cadenas, un campo de sw):

(Por cierto, si hay una mejor manera de buscar en un conjunto de cadenas un término de búsqueda, agradecería que alguien me dijera: binarySearch no parece estar definido en los conjuntos de cadenas).
Siguiendo el consejo del comentarista principal en la pregunta vinculada anteriormente, intenté reemplazar "int id" por "Integer id" en makeResponse, pero sin ningún efecto: la misma excepción se produce en el mismo lugar.
Cualquier consejo sería agradecido.
juzgar por los comentarios en la pregunta de stackoverflow vinculada anteriormente, proporcionar un seguimiento de la pila no proporcionaría ninguna información nueva, pero me complacería hacerlo si se me solicita.
