xceção de ponteiro nulo Java
Estou apenas começando com o aprendizado de Java e encontrei um problema. Ao tentar executar um aplicativo Android, recebo uma NullPointerException quando o método makeResponse é chamad

(sw é um campo da classe pai, definido em outro método. sw é uma instância de uma classe criada automaticamente - código completo no final)
A exceção é lançada na linha que começa "int id ="
Minha pesquisa inicial por NullPointerException me disse que foi "lançada quando um aplicativo tenta usar null em um caso em que um objeto é necessário". - daí as duas cláusulas "if" no meu código acima, para tentar descobrir qual objeto foi inesperadamente nulo. Como nenhuma delas é, concluí que sw.getIdFromName deve retornar um nulo do tipo Integer (como neste problema semelhante: Java: exceção de ponteiro nulo ao unboxing Inteiro?). No entanto, não vejo como isso é possível no sw.getIdFromName, como mostrado abaixo (nameLookup é uma matriz String, um campo de sw):

(Aliás, se houver uma maneira melhor de pesquisar um array de String por um termo de pesquisa, ficaria muito grato se alguém pudesse me dizer - o binarySearch não parece estar definido nos arrays de String
Seguindo o conselho do comentarista principal na pergunta acima, tentei substituir "int id" por "Integer id" no makeResponse, mas sem nenhum efeito - a mesma exceção é lançada no mesmo loca
