não é possível imprimir objetos globais em gdb

Eu tenho esse código c ++ simples:

#include<bits/stdc++.h>

using namespace std;
vector<string> q;

int main()
{
    q.push_back("test1");
    q.push_back("test2");
    cout<<q.front();
    return 0;
}

Quando eu usogdb imprimir variávelq Eu recebo o seguinte erro:

No symbol "q" in current context.

Eu compilo meu programa usando g ++ assim:

 g++ -g a.cpp

E aqui estão os meus comandos gdb:

gdb a.out
