Eu tenho a seguinte tabela MySQL (MyISAM) com cerca de 3 milhões de linhas.

Agora, quando eu executo a seguinte consulta, o MySQL está usando apenas o índice a_id e precisa varrer alguns milhares de linhas.

SELECT count(id) AS tries FROM `tasks` WHERE ( job='1' OR job='3' ) 
AND a_id='614' AND state >'80' AND state < '100' AND start_time >='1386538013';

Quando adiciono um índice adicional KEYnewkey (a_id,state,start_time), O MySQL ainda está tentando usar a_id apenas e não newkey. Somente ao usar o índice de dica / força na consulta, ele é usado. Alterar os campos na consulta não ajuda.

Alguma ideia? Eu não necessariamente quero dicas nas minhas declarações. O fato de que o MySQL não está fazendo isso automaticamente indica para mim que há um problema com minha tabela, chaves ou consulta em algum lugar. Qualquer ajuda é muito apreciada.
