Eu estou fazendo o acima e tudo funciona bem. A matriz dentro do objeto json é classificada pelo valor de largura da chave 'text' nos elementos json da matriz. O que eu notei é esse comportamento estranho no console.log. Estou imprimindo a matriz antes de classificar e depois de classificar e em ambas as impressões é o mesmo. Imprime a matriz ordenada. Por que é isso?
