Por que a sintaxe $ hash.key não funciona dentro do método ExpandString?

O seguinte script Powershell demonstra o problema:

$hash = @{'a' = 1; 'b' = 2}
Write-Host $hash['a']        # => 1
Write-Host $hash.a           # => 1

# Two ways of printing using quoted strings.
Write-Host "$($hash['a'])"   # => 1
Write-Host "$($hash.a)"      # => 1

# And the same two ways Expanding a single-quoted string.
$ExecutionContext.InvokeCommand.ExpandString('$($hash[''a''])') # => 1
$ExecutionContext.InvokeCommand.ExpandString('$($hash.a)')      # => Oh no!

Alguém sabe porque o$hash.key sintaxe funciona em todos os lugares, mas dentro de expansão explícita? Isso pode ser corrigido, ou eu tenho que engolir e viver com o$hash[''key''] sintaxe?
