Threads Java AWT

Estou tendo um problema com Threads usando a GUI do Swing do NetBeans. Esta é minha primeira vez tentando desenvolver uma GUI para um programa de backup usando o File System Notifier do Java. Eu tenho dois arquivosSyncUI.java eSync.java.

Muito bem o que eu quero que aconteça é você digitar um caminho de diretório nojTextField1 campo de texto que cria um encadeamento de sincronização que cria um novo objeto de sincronização e, em seguida, chamaprocessEvents nesse objeto. Quando um arquivo nesse diretório é alterado, quero adicionar texto sobre a alteração na lista.

Em seu estado atual, a interface do usuário não está mais respondendo;processEvents não está adicionando nada na minha lista. Alguma ideia sobre qual é o problema? Também desde que eu estou começando a usar java qualquer crítica construtiva é bem-vinda.
