Quiero usar una barra de búsqueda en un cajón de navegación

Básicamente necesito deslizar hacia la izquierda y hacia la derecha para configurar la barra de búsqueda y, bueno, lo has adivinado, desliza el cajón de navegación ...

Lo que me gustaría hacer es deslizar la barra de búsqueda cuando está enfocada y el dibujante de navegación cuando no lo está.

¿Cómo debo hacer eso?

Aquí está mi código al configurar un elemento (todavía no he configurado la barra de búsqueda)
