D3: mapa de calor com zoom lento

Eu tenho esse mapa de calor com zoom, que parece muito lento ao aumentar ou diminuir o zoom. Existe algo para torná-lo mais rápido / suave ou são muitos pontos e é o melhor que posso ter. Eu queria saber se há algum truque para torná-lo mais leve para o navegador, mantendo melhorias como dicas de ferramentas. Ou talvez meu código que lida com o recurso de zoom não seja ótimo.
