setOpaque () em java

Alguém pode explicar por que o Nimbius trata o setOpaque () de maneira diferente de outros LaFs java. Está quebrando meu código porque os componentes que normalmente são transparentes não são mais.

Edição: O problema parece lidar apenas com JTextAreas (que é o que eu preciso) ou componentes similares.

EDIT EDIT: Esta é uma tela do aplicativo real. Ao aplicar a solução do trashgod, o plano de fundo ainda não aparece.

Tentei a sugestão do trashgod para substituir a tinta (). Eu trabalhei com isso por horas e não consegui fazê-lo funcionar. Consegui mostrar o plano de fundo, mas o JinternalFrame não pôde ser movido, redimensionado e seu texto foi selecionado. Chamar super.paint (g) falhou ao resolver a solução. Existe uma maneira fácil de fazer isso que eu possa estar perdendo?
Eu tomei uma nova abordagem para isso. Dentro do JInternalFrame é um JLayeredPane.
Camada 0 - JLabel
Camada 1 - JTextArea

Quando o JInternalFrame é movido ou redimensionado:

Torna-se invisívelTira uma captura de tela de onde estava o contêinerPinta o JLabel com a imagem que ele tirouTorna-se visível novamente.

Desde que eu não consegui fazer com que o JInternalFrame fosse transparente. Eu simulei sua transparência. O único problema é que há muita sobrecarga associada a isso. Alguma ideia?
