Excepción cuando se llama al servicio web después de que el dispositivo se bloqueó

Estoy solicitando cosas de la web usando servicios web que devuelven XML. Esto funciona bien siempre que el dispositivo no esté bloqueado. Si el usuario apaga el dispositivo o si se bloquea después del tiempo de espera configurado, el servicio web falla. Agregué el stacktrace aquí. Lo que me pregunto: no estoy haciendo nada en mi aplicación de prueba con el resultado del servicio web (llamado vía SOAP). Aún así se bloquea, tratando de llamar "mprotect" o algo así. ¿Cuál es el problema y cómo puedo mantener mi aplicación ejecutándose si el dispositivo se bloquea? Siempre pensé que bloquear es diferente de presionar en segundo plano: la aplicación debe permanecer activa.

Descubrí que "errno 12" significa "sin memoria", pero eso no es cierto. Si el dispositivo no se bloquea, la aplicación de prueba continúa durante horas. Tan pronto como se bloquea, hace una solicitud más y se bloquea. Además, Instruments muestra un uso constante de memoria de 40 MB (como en la pregunta de Luke:Explicación de MProtect Errno 12 (ENOMEM) )
