Por que minha referência fraca não é apagada logo depois que os fortes se foram?

Eu sou um pouco teimoso, mas quero entender bem as referências fracas e fortes, e é por isso que estou perguntando a você mais uma vez.

Considere isto:

__weak NSString* mySecondPointer = myText;   
NSLog(@"myText: %@", myText);

O resultado émyText: (null) e é bastante óbvio - a referência fraca é definida como nula logo após a atribuição, porque não há referência forte ao objeto apontado.

Mas neste caso:

__strong NSString* strongPtr = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"mYTeSTteXt %d"]; 
// weak pointer points to the same object as strongPtr
__weak NSString* weakPtr = strongPtr;
if(strongPtr == weakPtr) 
     NSLog(@"They are pointing to the same obj");        
NSLog(@"StrongPtr: %@", strongPtr);

Minha pergunta:

Porque depoisstrongPtr = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"abc"]; O valor do ponteiro fraco não é alterado para zero (por que o objeto criado no início ainda existe na memória, apesar de não ter nenhum ref forte? - ou talvez tenha?)

Eu tentei isso: (mas não é bom para adicionar um comentário, suponho). Eu incluí o código onde estou criando um strongPtr em @autorealesepool. Eu não tenho certeza se é solução correta, mas funciona ...
