No se pueden instalar gemas porque "método indefinido` invoke_with_build_args 'para nil: NilClass "

Estoy en la pista de Ruby y estoy en el proceso de instalación de Ruby on Rails.

Estoy tratando de instalar gemas pero no está sucediendo y no estoy seguro de por qué y cómo solucionarlo.

$gem install bundler

Tengo openssl-1.0.1g instalado

Estoy usando Mac 10.9.2
ruby 2.1.1p76 (revisión 2014-02-24 45161) [x86_64-darwin13.0]
rbenv 0.4.0-97-gfe0b243

Esto no es como otras preguntas en el sentido de que estoy usando rbenv, mientras que otros hacen preguntas relacionadas con rvm que no puedo usar.
