Google Ads

I've always admired Google for making so darn much money from Ad revenue, but I never really thought Google's Adsense program worked that well for web site owners. Well, now I found out I'm wrong.

I have this little site I built for ColdFusion developers called cfQuickDocs. It basically is a quick reference to look up CF tags and functions. I decided to throw a simple 'Google Ads' line at the top of the page, and so far this month I have made more than double the hosting costs for that site and this blog! Admittedly, I am on a very cheap web host, but I never expected to make that much money. The only bad thing is that I have to wait for my total earnings to reach $100 before Google will send me a check...<sigh>, oh well I can wait. :)

Hang in there... I'm approaching the start of my 4th year of blogging and Google Ads have worked very well. I get about 30-40 clicks per day on a total volume of 4000 page impressions excluding rss feeds, robots, and referer spams (in other words 4000 views from actual people), relative to 2-5 clicks per day during my first 6 months. It took 3 months before the first $100 check arrived, and about 3 years later revenues way, way up. I actually find that 60% of clicks are on my photo galleries made with Snap Gallery, and the other 40% on the blog itself. While I really love artistic and simple photo gallery software like SlideShow Pro, I prefer a plain Snap Gallery because users must click to view a new page for each photo, allowing Google ads to refresh each time with content matching the photo title and caption.

There's a similar discussion started at Shuttle.Space. I've pasted the URL in place of my website link, so click on my name for this entry.
